Bio

My name is Pat Strawser. I've been playing the piano for over 20 years, and have been professionally active as a keyboard and piano player, bass player and composer for over ten years. I currently do work as a freelance piano/keyboard player for solo and combo settings, and as a composer for video and multimedia soundtracks. I am comfortable writing and playing in a variety of styles, most particularly jazz standards, rock, and contemporary Christian/gospel. See my discography here.

I also operate a piano instruction studio, which currently has between 4 and 8 students. I specialize in modern rock/contemporary Christian and jazz, as well as classical European tradition repertoire. My focus is to bring together music of the past and the present, to show their similarities in terms of form and harmony, and analyze the mechanics of harmony and melody in general. I place a strong emphasis on the ability to play by ear, and to guide the student to understand the theory behind what he hears and plays.
